1:48 A6M2-N Rufe SPACE

The real subject

The A6M2-N was a Japanese floatplane fighter of the Second World War, derived from the A6M2 carrier fighter. Its landing gear was replaced by a large float under the fuselage supplemented by a pair of smaller floats under the wing, so the machine could operate from the water where there was no airfield. The Allies used the code name Rufe for it. The floats did, however, cost it part of its speed and agility, yet it still found a use in the island war.

What the set contains

These are colored elements of the SPACE line in 1:48 scale. They carry both printed color and raised relief, so on a model they take the place of hand painting tiny areas. They suit places where there are many colored areas in a small space and a brush would manage them only with difficulty. Which elements belong where is shown by the manufacturer's instructions enclosed with the package.

How the elements are applied

Elements of the SPACE line have no adhesive layer of their own. Moisten only the backing paper with a damp sponge and a drop of detergent, wait until the element releases, and lift it off with tweezers or the tip of a toothpick. A drop of white PVA glue will hold it in place, and the manufacturer does not recommend cyanoacrylate glue. The base must be dry, clean and degreased. First lay the element on loosely, check its position and only then press it down, ideally with a soft cotton swab working from the center toward the edges. Press it gradually over edges and into recesses, so that no air bubble is left anywhere. Do not use a decal softener, as it would damage the printed layer.
