A set of self-adhesive masking templates for spraying the frames of the glazing of the attack helicopter Bell AH-1G Cobra in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit nor an extra part - it is a tool thanks to which the clear part of the cabin is painted exactly where it should be and nowhere else.
The cabin of the Cobra is much bigger and more intricate than that of a fighter. The tandem layout means two sections of glazing one above the other, a transverse frame between them and, at the sides, hinged doors with framing of their own. Cutting strips of tape by hand for an area like that is lengthy, and a single inaccurately laid edge is visible on a finished model at first glance. Pre-cut masks shorten this step to a few minutes and, above all, give frames of the same width over the whole cabin.
First degrease the clear part and let it dry perfectly. Lift the mask off the sheet with pointed tweezers or the tip of a scalpel, lay it on the glass and press it down with a soft tool from the center toward the edges, so that no air is left under it. Then comes the color of the frame - spray in several very thin coats, because a thick application creates a step at the edge of the mask. Take the masks off as soon as the paint goes tacky; with needlessly long waiting the sprayed coat can peel off with the film.
