A masking set for a model of the An-2 biplane in 1:48 scale, the rendition carrying the Wiedenczyk designation.
Responsibility details are not available.
The An-2 is a large single-engine biplane of Soviet design which was built for several decades and spread all over the world; a substantial proportion of the examples came from license production in Poland. It served to carry passengers and cargo, for parachute drops and for agricultural work. The set aims at a machine in the rendition that carries the Wiedenczyk designation.
The An-2 has a glazed pilot's cabin as well as a row of windows in the fuselage, and on top of that struts and bracing between the wings. There are therefore considerably more areas where the paint has to end exactly on an edge than on an ordinary monoplane. A pre-cut mask fits the shape of a window, holds around its whole perimeter and the paint cannot get under it. That does away with the lengthy cutting of tape, during which it also easily happens that the frames come out a different width on each side.
Clean and degrease the glazing before sticking the masks down; masking does not hold on fingerprints. Lay a mask on dry, check the position and only then press the edges down. Spray in thin coats and let the paint set between applications. Once dry, remove the masks with tweezers at a sharp angle. The placement and the number of the individual pieces are given by the manufacturer's instructions.
For builders of the An-2 model who want all the windows framed the same way and do not want to spend an evening over tape and a scalpel. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
