A set of etched parts meant to sharpen a model of the AV-8B Plus ground-attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. Photo-etch is thin metal sheet with the shape cut through it and fine surface texture. Thanks to that, flat elements come out in a thickness that injection-molded plastic cannot reach. The scope of the set and the placement of the individual parts are described in the enclosed instructions.
The AV-8B is a single-seat ground-attack aircraft with vertical takeoff and landing, flown above all by the US Marine Corps. The version designated Plus differs from the older machines in a reshaped nose for the radar, which gave the aircraft the ability to work against airborne targets as well. In shape it is a high-wing monoplane with a short fuselage, rotating nozzles on the sides and outrigger wheels near the wingtips.
Separate the parts from the carrier sheet with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with cutters, so that the sheet does not bend. Make the bends over the edge of a steel ruler or in a bending tool, always along the whole length at once. Degrease the metal before gluing and make the joints with super glue. Paint holds poorly on bare metal, so lay down a thin layer of primer first.
The set suits a modeler who wants to raise the level of detail on a finished model where plastic is necessarily thicker than the real thing. Working with photo-etch calls for tweezers, a sharp blade and calm, but the result shows even in a close-up photograph.
The package contains the etched parts only. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
