About product

Three Lancasters that survived

Of more than seven thousand Avro Lancaster bombers built, only a few complete machines are left, and the sheet concentrates on exactly those. The best known is NX611 of version B. Mk. VII, nicknamed Just Jane, which the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby looks after and which carries different codes on its two sides, LE-C and DX-C.

Canada and Britain in the air

The second machine is a B. Mk. X with the serial number KB726 and the letters VR-A, that is, an exhibit of the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum. The trio is closed by PA474 of version B. Mk. I with the code KC-A, an aircraft of the British memorial flight, which in the season given appeared with the painting of the machine DV385 Thumper III. The supporting details relate to 2014, when the two airworthy Lancasters came together over England.

The nature of the goods

The set contains printed waterslide decals at 1:48 size, not model parts. It serves to give a finished kit the exact identity of a particular surviving aircraft, including squadron letters and personal names.

Before applying

We recommend evening the surface out with gloss clear first and applying the elements one at a time, with decal softener at riveted and panel transitions. The large codes on the sides of the fuselage are best seated on a wet surface, so that there is time to align them with the axis of the aircraft.

Why these machines in particular

The Avro Lancaster bomber carried out most of the night raids of British Bomber Command during the war, and its bomb bay took even the heaviest loads that then existed. That is exactly why the handful of surviving airframes carries such weight: each of them is the last tangible record of equipment whose crews had a statistically slim hope of flying a tour to the end.

FAQ

The museum NX611 from East Kirkby, the Canadian KB726 with the letters VR-A and the airworthy PA474, which then flew in the colors of the machine DV385.

The present-day guise of surviving aircraft. The finishes do imitate wartime patterns, but they match the state in which the machines fly or stand in museums.

Yes, as long as they do not hurry. The large side codes are better seated on a wet surface, where they can still be moved into the right position.
