A decal set in 1:48 scale for two Boeing B-17 machines. One is a Fortress flying today with the name Sentimental Journey, the other a wartime B-17F that fell into the hands of the Luftwaffe.
Responsibility details are not available.
The sheet offers markings for a pair of four-engine Boeing B-17s whose stories diverge as far as they possibly can. The first is a B-17G with the serial number 44-83514, today a carefully maintained flying machine of the Arizona wing of the Commemorative Air Force organization. It carries the name Sentimental Journey and belongs to the handful of Fortresses still kept in the air today.
The second machine belongs to wartime history. The B-17F-27-BO with the serial number 41-24585 and the fuselage code PU-B served with the 360th Bomb Squadron of the 303rd Bomb Group at the English base of Molesworth and was named Wulf Hound. The German side acquired it practically undamaged, and the Luftwaffe then flew test flights with it, looking for the weak points of the American daylight formations.
These are waterslide decals, that is, a sheet with a printed film that, after soaking in water, you slide off the backing paper onto the surface of the model. The set completes a finished kit of the matching size; plastic parts are not part of it. Besides the personal names and the fuselage codes, the sheet also contains national insignia and accompanying lettering for both of the machine versions chosen.
They hold best on smooth gloss clear. Cut the element out close to the edge of the print, dip it for a few seconds and let it rest until the film starts to slide by itself. Once seated, blot off the excess water with a soft cloth and let everything dry out thoroughly; only then does the matte covering clear coat come into play.
