A masking set for the B-26B Marauder medium bomber in 1:48 scale, prepared for the outer and the inner side of the transparent parts. The Marauder has glazing in several places at once: the glazed navigator nose, the greenhouse above the cockpit, a row of windows on the sides of the fuselage and the dorsal turret. Outlining all of that by hand with tape is a job for several evenings.
The Marauder was created as a fast bomber with a cigar-shaped fuselage and a fairly small wing. The high wing loading gave it excellent speed but also uncomfortably high takeoff and landing speeds, which in training units cost crews their lives and gave the type a bad name. On the B version the span was increased and the vertical tail grew, so the behavior of the machine calmed down markedly. Over western Europe the type then flew an enormous number of combat hours and its loss rate was among the lowest of the bombers of its kind.
First apply the inner cuts and spray the shade of the cockpit; only then seat the parts in the fuselage. Mask the side windows separately and apply the paint from the edge inwards. On the glazed nose watch the seam between the glazing and the skin, because that is exactly where the paint likes to build up.
