An open bomb bay is one of the most rewarding places where craftsmanship can be shown on a large bomber. Inside is a dense network of beams, stiffeners, hangers and lines that injected plastic simplifies. The photo-etched set by Eduard completes it with parts of thin metal and is kept for a model of the Martin B-26G in 1:48 scale. It is fitted into a kit acquired separately.
Medium bombers of this class attacked bridges, marshaling yards, artillery positions and transport junctions from medium altitudes. They flew in tight formations, where the accuracy of the drop depended on the lead machine, and over the target they had to hold a straight course even under anti-aircraft fire. During the invasion of Normandy and in the campaign that followed they were among the hardest-worked machines of the tactical air force. The last production version, the B-26G, differed from the previous one mainly in equipment standardized according to new norms.
Build and paint the inside of the bomb bay before the fuselage halves are glued to each other. Once it is closed you will not get inside any more and all the extra work would come to nothing. Bend the metal parts over the edge of a ruler or in a bending tool, and fix the joints with a minute amount of cyanoacrylate glue. Bring the space inside out with dark toning into the corners and a dry brush along the edges, so that the structure stands out even when seen from outside.
