About product

A driver's workplace that nobody spared

Driving a three-axle all-wheel-drive truck across country was nothing comfortable. In front of the driver stood a wide panel with round gauges for air pressure, temperature and engine speed, two levers to his right hand, one for the gearbox and the other for the transfer case, and between them a handbrake on a long rod. The seats were plain, covered in heavy leatherette, and everything around them would stand rough handling, because the machine was meant to tow artillery even along muddy roads. It is exactly this raw simplicity that makes the inside an interesting subject as soon as the model is built with the doors ajar.

How the layer works

The colored artwork is printed so that the individual elements stand above their surroundings. The bezels of the instruments, the lever knobs and the seams of the upholstery have real height, while the carrier remains a thin paper for wet transfer. The procedure is therefore as simple as with ordinary decals, but the result comes close to photo-etch completed with hand painting. Leave the softener in its bottle, though; it would damage the printed resin.

The cuts follow the shapes of the plastic parts of the manufacturer Takom in 1:35, and the extent is kept reduced, that is to the surfaces that stay visible. Before applying, even the surface out with dark paint and rid it of grease; once dry, a fine picking out of the crevices and a coat of matte clear will do it good, bringing the sheen of the printing into line with the plastic around it. Leave the cab for the time when the body is still in separate parts, because it is hard to reach into the corners through narrow door openings and you would risk breaking a surface already seated.

FAQ

Each is cut for the plastic parts of a different manufacturer, and those differ in dimensions and layout. You reach for the matching variant according to which kit you are building.

In many respects yes, because the printing has both height and color. Photo-etch suits grilles you can see through and parts that are meant to stay thin and translucent.

Pierce it with the tip of a scalpel and press it down through a dampened cloth. As long as the binder has not dried completely, it can be put right without a trace.

Yes, that is even recommended. The set is settled onto a finished, degreased coat of paint, not onto bare plastic.
