The set from the Czech maker Hauler is meant for modelers who want to raise the level of the plastic kit of the Soviet BA-6 armored car given in the name of the product. It holds photo-etched sheet with small parts for which the thickness of the material is decisive - fenders, brackets, eyes, catches and similar elements that a plastic molding can only suggest roughly. It is neither a kit nor a finished model; without the base kit you cannot use the set.
The BA-6 was a Soviet heavy armored car of the 1930s built on the three-axle chassis of a truck with the rear two axles driven. In a rotating turret it carried a 45 mm gun and a machine gun, so in firepower it matched the light tanks of the day. It was used for reconnaissance and for escorting columns, and it appeared in combat in Spain, in the Far East and in the opening battles on the Eastern Front. Cross-country performance was its weak point; on a paved road, by contrast, it offered a decent speed and range.
With larger photo-etched parts it pays to anneal the sheet briefly over a flame and let it cool - the metal softens and is shaped far more easily without any risk of cracking. Put the small parts away in a dish once they have been cut out, so that they do not get lost; a photo-etched part falling onto a carpet is as good as unfindable. Degrease the whole model before painting and use a primer, ideally in a thin coat, so that the engraving does not clog. Soviet equipment will take a marked dusting with a light pigment, which brings the fine photo-etched detail out instead.
This is an accessory set for a kit you have already bought. It is supplied unpainted; the base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
