A resin detailing set in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Aires. It replaces the plastic airbrake and its bay with castings that have a thin wall and a well-drawn interior, so the airbrake can be shown extended on the finished model. The set is not a kit of the aircraft, but an accessory to a model of the two-seat Harrier.
What the set addresses
In a kit the airbrake tends to be molded as part of the fuselage or as a thick flat part with no inner detail. An extended airbrake, meanwhile, is among the typical marks of a parked machine and opens up a view into the bay with its mechanism. A resin casting makes it possible to show this scene faithfully without long cutting and sanding of plastic.
The Harrier was a British combat aircraft with vertical and short takeoff, powered by a Rolls-Royce Pegasus engine with thrust vectoring. The T.2, T.4 and T.8 versions are two-seat training machines with a lengthened fuselage and a raised rear cockpit. The airbrake is placed on the underside of the rear part of the fuselage.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, so that the mold release agent disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, not with nippers, as a thin part could crack. Level the surfaces with a file and sanding paper wet and with respiratory protection, because resin dust should not be inhaled. It is bonded with super glue, that is, with cyanoacrylate, which holds at once, so try the part dry first. Apply a primer before painting. Paint the inside of the bay and the back of the airbrake and bring them out with a wash before you fix the part in the open position, otherwise you will not reach into the corners.
This is a detailing accessory, not a kit of the aircraft. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
