A photo-etched metal set in 1:48 scale for a model of the attack helicopter Bell AH-1G Cobra. Thin metal elements refine the places where a plastic part would come out too thick.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bell AH-1G Cobra is an American attack helicopter that came about as a machine designed directly for the fire support of ground units. The fuselage is deliberately narrow, the crew sits in tandem and on the sides of the fuselage the helicopter carries stub wings with pylons for armament. The landing gear consists of skids. It is precisely the slender fuselage and the broken-down cockpit that make the Cobra a machine on which every refined detail is clearly visible.
This is a set of photo-etched metal parts. The elements are etched into thin sheet, held in a carrier fret and separated from it before use. Photo-etched parts suit every place where a plastic part would come out disproportionately thick in 1:48 scale. The exact make-up of the fret and the extent of the fitting are given in the instructions enclosed with the set.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a firm surface rather than by twisting, otherwise they will warp. Make the bends along the marked score lines, best of all in an etch bender or between two straight jaws. They are glued with cyanoacrylate applied in a small amount so that it does not wick into the surroundings. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal, otherwise the paint will hold badly; a thin primer coat works well.
The set is intended for modelers who do not mind working with small metal elements and want to push the detail of a kit beyond the level of plastic parts. The model of the helicopter itself, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
