A set of photo-etched parts for a model of the light helicopter Bell OH-13 Sioux in 1:48 scale. Intended to work up the details of a model under construction.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bell OH-13 Sioux is the military guise of the light Bell 47 helicopter, a machine with a spherical glazed cabin, a lattice tail boom, skids and a two-blade main rotor. It served mainly for reconnaissance, liaison and casualty evacuation, and its glazed cabin with its exposed structure is a challenge and a reward for a modeler at the same time: on a finished model practically everything inside is visible.
This is a set of photo-etched parts. Photo-etched elements are thin metal parts that replace, at scale, shapes that cannot be molded finely enough in plastic, for example seat belts, instrument panels, covers and fine stiffeners. The set is intended for a model in 1:48 scale, and the particular kit and an exact breakdown of the parts are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts from the carrier sheet with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than by tearing, otherwise the element will twist. Make the bends against a ruler or in an etch bender so that the edge comes out straight. Metal parts are glued with cyanoacrylate or with two-part epoxy, as cement for polystyrene does not hold on them. Before painting, wash, degrease and prime the elements, otherwise the paint will flake off the smooth metal. Work with small elements is made easier by tweezers and good lighting, and with a glazed cabin it pays to try every part dry first.
This is a supplementary set for a build. Paints, glue and thinners are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise. The extent of the parts supplied is given in the manufacturer's description.
