1:48 Bell P-39Q Airacobra landing flaps is an Eduard photo-etched set that replaces the landing flaps on a 1:48 Airacobra model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the Czech brand Eduard deals with a single but very visible spot on a model: the landing flaps. The plastic flaps from a kit are necessarily thick and in the lowered position they look unconvincing, whereas a photo-etched replacement gives the edge the thinness that real sheet metal has. The set is intended for a Bell P-39Q Airacobra model in 1:48 scale and does not make up any model on its own.
The Airacobra had an unusual arrangement: the Allison engine sat behind the pilot and drove the propeller through a long shaft that ran under the cockpit floor. The cockpit was entered through doors in the manner of a car and the landing gear was of the nosewheel type, which was a rarity among fighters at the time. The Q version carried heavy armament and the Soviet Air Force used it in enormous numbers, where the type earned an excellent reputation thanks to its advantages at low altitude.
First cut the original flaps off the trailing edge and level the surface with a file. Fold the photo-etched parts according to the instructions, make the bends along the etched grooves and set the ribs perpendicular, otherwise the flap will twist once glued. Offer the assembled piece up dry and only then glue it. Do not forget to apply a primer to the metal, because otherwise the shade rubs off during handling.
The set is an accessory to a kit, which has to be obtained separately.
