An injection-molded plastic kit of the American rocket-powered research aircraft Bell X-1 in 1:48 scale. It comes in the well-equipped ProfiPACK edition, which adds color photo-etched parts, painting masks and a waterslide decal sheet with several marking options to the plastic. With its fuselage shaped after a .50 caliber bullet, the X-1 is one of the icons of early supersonic research.
The Bell X-1 was the first of the famous series of American X research aircraft. It was not a fighter: the machine was powered by a liquid-fuel rocket engine and got into the air slung under the fuselage of a mother bomber, from which it was released at altitude. On October 14, 1947 the pilot Chuck Yeager became the first person to break the speed of sound in controlled level flight with it, reaching roughly Mach 1.07. He named his aircraft Glamorous Glennis after his wife. That flight opened the era of supersonic aviation.
Finish and paint the cockpit and the interior before the fuselage halves go together, because you will not reach them later; the color photo-etched parts of the ProfiPACK do the main work here. Spray the characteristic orange finish (on some machines) or another striking overall scheme with an airbrush over a primer so that the surface is perfectly smooth. Clean the mold seams off the sharp edges of the wings and the fuselage. Use the masks for crisp edges on the glazing and the lettering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
