1:48 Bf 109 E-7 with masking from both sides: besides the face, the inside of the cockpit is dealt with as well. On a canopy that hinges to the side the inner framing is permanently in view.

The double-sided form of the set for the Bf 109 E-7 in 1:48 scale. Masking is done here from inside the cockpit as well, which on the Emil makes exceptional sense: the middle section of the canopy does not slide back but hinges whole to the side. As soon as you open it on a model, you look at its inner side straight on and bare clear plastic there is distracting.
The E-7 version was also built in tropical form with a dust filter on the intake and with equipment for survival in the desert. It flew over the Mediterranean and in North Africa, where the extended range helped it far more than over the narrow English Channel. It saw service on other fronts too and in the role of a fighter-bomber stayed in service longer than had been expected of the early line. What stayed characteristic was the short stiff wing with a braced horizontal tail and the square outline of the fin.
Do the inner side first, before the transparent parts are fitted. Apply the paint dry and in thin coats, so that the edges do not round off. Once it has cured, seat the parts, mask the face and finish the camouflage. It is a good idea to leave the armored windscreen to the end, because it is the hardest to handle.
