A set of masks for a model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 fighter in 1:48 scale. The masks are cut in advance to the shape of the individual areas of the glazing, so the framing of the cockpit does not have to be laboriously built up out of cut tape. The word double-sided says that the set allows for masking from the outer as well as the inner side of the glazing, so the frames look right when you look into the cockpit too.

The real subject

The Bf 109 G-6 was the most numerously built version of the G series of the single-engine Messerschmitt fighter. It was powered by the inverted V12 Daimler-Benz DB 605 and it is told apart from the earlier versions above all by the prominent fairings over the breeches of the MG 131 machine guns ahead of the cockpit. It was built from 1943 in large numbers and existed in many production and field modifications, including machines with a different canopy.

Use and tips

Stick the masks on a clean, degreased and dry surface. Press the edges down carefully with a toothpick or a wooden stick, so that no paint creeps under them. Spray the glazing with the interior shade first and only then with the top covering color, and the frames will then have the right color from inside. Take the masks off soon after the paint has dried, while the finish is fresh, and the edges will stay sharper. Tweezers with a fine tip come in handy for peeling.
