A set from Eduard in 1:48 scale intended for spraying the large mottled camouflage pattern carried on the fuselage sides and tail surfaces of German fighters. The designation mask-etch means that the set combines self-adhesive pre-cut masks with photo-etched brass templates. It is not a kit and it is not a model — it is an accessory that helps you spray the irregular blotches repeatably and evenly across the whole aircraft.

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 in its Friedrich (F) and Gustav (G) versions formed the backbone of the German fighter force in the middle and late phases of the war. Its fuselage sides and tail surfaces carried the typical mottled camouflage in shades of gray, which this set helps you spray repeatably and symmetrically.

Use

• The pattern is used to reproduce the characteristic mottled camouflage (typically in shades of German gray) on the fuselage sides and on the fin.
• Hold the masks, or the etched templates supplied with them, above the surface and spray over them with an airbrush so that the blotches get soft edges.
• Spray in thin coats with thinned paint from a greater distance — you get a softer transition than with tight contact masking.
• The templates let you keep the pattern symmetrical on both sides and repeat it easily on several aircraft of the same series.

Who it is for

For modelers who want their mottled camouflage sprayed evenly and faithfully, without laboriously guessing the pattern freehand. It pays off above all on larger aircraft and when building several machines of the same type. Experience with an airbrush is assumed.
