An Eduard photo-etched metal set for a model of the Bf 109G-6 fighter in 1:48 scale. The thin parts give the model detail that a plastic molding of that thickness cannot reach.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 was the most heavily produced version of the German single-seat fighter. It was powered by a liquid-cooled Daimler-Benz DB 605 inverted V12, that is with the cylinders pointing downward. You can tell the G-6 version by the prominent fairings over the front of the fuselage, called for by the larger breeches of the synchronized 13 mm machine guns.
Photo-etch is a thin metal fret with an etched relief. The parts are separated from it, bent to shape where needed and glued to the model. Metal holds its shape even at a thickness that cannot be achieved in plastic, so photo-etch is used wherever a plastic part is necessarily thicker than the real thing: on seat belts, brackets, handles, grilles and fine surfaces with pressings. Which section of the model this set covers, and how far, is given in the instructions supplied in the package.
Separate the part with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than snapping it off in your fingers: thin metal twists otherwise and is hard to straighten. Make the bends over the edge of a bending tool or between two blades, so that the edge is crisp along its whole length. It is glued with super glue applied on the tip of a toothpick; cement for polystyrene will not bond metal. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal and lay down a primer, or the paint will peel off the smooth surface.
A photo-etched set is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
