The Bf 110G-4 was the last and most widespread night fighter form of the German twin-engine heavy fighter. It carried a radar with conspicuous dipole antennas, an operator watching the screens joined the crew, and many machines received cannon aimed obliquely upward, with which bomber streams were attacked from below. It was in exactly this version that the most successful night fighter pilot of the Second World War won most of his victories.
The set belongs to the line of three-dimensional decals. The colored elements are lifted from moistened backing paper with tweezers and, thanks to the relief printing, create raised detail with depth on the surface. Harness straps of photo-etched steel complete the package.
The base is first sprayed in the interior shade and left to dry smooth. Only the backing paper is moistened, the element is lifted with tweezers and fixed with white PVA glue; do not use decal softener or setting solution in this work, as they attack the printed resin. The relief takes only mild pressure from a cotton swab, otherwise it gets pressed flat and the three-dimensional effect disappears.
The greatest effect comes on a model with the canopy slid back, where the crew stations are visible. The steel belts are shaped cold, hold a bend and look convincing even without paint. Anyone building a closed cockpit saves work simply by leaving out the side consoles.
Keep the water for moistening the backing paper lukewarm rather than hot and add only a drop of dish soap. Cut off only what you really need with scissors; the rest of the sheet comes in handy as a source of small instruments for another build. Once dry, it is good to go over the whole interior with a matte varnish so that the sheen of the base does not shine through.
