A set of cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the Blackburn Buccaneer in the S.2C and S.2D versions, in 1:48 scale. This is not a model but an accessory for the build. At New Ware the EXPERT designation is the highest of the three grades of extent the maker uses alongside BASIC and ADVANCED. It means the most complete variant of the set, the one where the modeler expects the least need to cut anything extra. The particular list of contents is given by the maker on the packaging.
The Buccaneer was a twin-engined British strike aircraft designed for operation from the deck of an aircraft carrier and for high-speed flight at low level. Its rugged structure and deep fuselage reflect that, as does the solution that is one of its hallmarks: a rotating bomb bay door in the underside of the fuselage instead of ordinary doors. The crew cockpit is fairly small and set low against the massive fuselage, so the glazing is exactly the detail that catches the eye at once on a finished model. The S.2C and S.2D versions are among the later naval revisions of the type.
The commonest mistake does not come when applying them but when lifting them off. Remove the mask shortly after the paint has gone touch-dry, while the coat is still flexible, not once it has fully cured. Pull it back diagonally over itself, not straight up, or you may tear the edge of the finish away with it. A pointed toothpick or a wooden stick helps to lift the edge of the mask without scratching the clear part. Do not throw the rest of the sheet away. Kabuki tape is pliable, shapes well into curves, and the offcuts come in handy for masking soft camouflage transitions, protecting surfaces that are already finished or small jobs on other builds. Keep it on its original backing and away from dust.
