Eduard 1:48 Blotch – masking set (etched) is a universal etched stencil for spraying mottle camouflage on aircraft models. It is not a model but an aid for painting.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the Czech maker Eduard is an etched (photo-etched) metal masking stencil for 1:48 scale. It is neither a kit nor a model, but a universal aid for modelers for spraying mottle camouflage (known as mottle or blotch), of the kind carried by a number of period aircraft on the sides of the fuselage and the tail surfaces.
You hold the etched metal sheet with its cut-out openings a little above the surface of the model and spray the paint through it with an airbrush. That gives even, repeatable blotches with a soft edge, which are hard to achieve freehand. The distance of the stencil from the surface determines how crisp the edge is. The set is not tied to one aircraft type; it suits anywhere you want a regular mottle pattern.
Mottle camouflage appeared on a number of military aircraft of the Second World War, especially on German fighters. Small or large blotches were sprayed over the base color to break up the outline of the fuselage. Spraying such a pattern by hand is demanding in terms of evenness, and that is precisely what the etched stencil solves.
The set contains an etched masking stencil only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
