SPACE is a line from the Czech company Eduard in which 3D decals are supplemented by photo-etched steel parts. This item is aimed at the interior of the four-engined B-17F Flying Fortress in 1:48 scale. The set is tailored to the Eduard B-17F Flying Fortress kit - neither the model itself nor any plastic parts are in the package.
The instrument panels and the side consoles get a raised relief carried on a decal film which, once applied, blends with the surface of the part. The photo-etched items then cover the places where thin metal looks more faithful than thick plastic. The result is a cockpit with a depth of detail a modeler would otherwise only reach by laboriously hand-painting tiny dials.
Work before you close the fuselage, because most of the places are out of reach later. Degrease the base and give it a gloss coat, lay the decal onto a damp surface and press the air bubbles out with a cotton swab. Bend the photo-etched parts over a sharp edge, ideally in a bender, and join them with cyanoacrylate glue applied on the tip of a pin. At the end, even out the sheen of the whole compartment with a matte coat and check that no edge of the film is left showing.
