The F/A-18F is the two-seat version of the carrier-borne multirole Super Hornet. It differs from the older Hornets in the larger wing root extensions, the rectangular air intakes and the greater wing area, so it is not a mere modification but a separate design. The machine operates from the decks of aircraft carriers and performs both fighter and strike tasks; a second crew member sits in the rear seat. The folding wingtips, the massive landing gear and the arrestor hook are among the details that are clearly visible on the model.
These are photo-etched parts in 1:48 scale intended to detail a finished kit. The parts are etched from thin sheet metal and are held on a fret. Etching makes it possible to show belts, buckles, grilles and thin metal stiffeners in a thickness that an injection-molded part cannot reach. Which parts the set contains and which kit it is matched to is given in the instructions supplied.
Cut the parts from the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with cutters, and sand the remains of the tab away. Make the bends along the marked groove, ideally in a bending tool or between two blades. Glue with tiny drops of cyanoacrylate; cement for polystyrene will not bond metal. Before painting, wash and degrease the parts and cover them with a primer. Finish everything that goes into the cockpit or inside the fuselage before you close the assembly up.
The set is for modelers who have already worked with photo-etch and want to take a model of a modern carrier aircraft to a higher level of detail. The model, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
