A masking set from MH models in 1:48 scale for a model of the American Brewster F2A-3 Buffalo carrier fighter, tied by its theme to the service of this type in the Battle of Midway. The contents of the set are masking templates, not parts of the model and not decals. With the templates the colored elements are sprayed straight onto the airframe, so they have no carrier film edge, they do not silver and they take further weathering.
The Brewster F2A was an American carrier fighter of all-metal construction with a stubby fuselage, a radial engine and a retractable landing gear that folded into the sides of the fuselage. Compared with the earlier variants the F2A-3 version had an increased fuel load and a higher take-off weight, which told on its flying performance. In June 1942 machines of this type were committed by the US Marine Corps in the defense of Midway atoll against a numerically stronger opponent. It is precisely this slice of history that made the Buffalo a popular modeling subject.
Finish the model in its base coat and let the paint cure. Seat the template in place, press it down all round the outline and cover the surroundings with tape and paper. Spray the paint in several very thin coats perpendicular to the edge of the mask. Light shades over a dark base need an intermediate coat of white, because otherwise they do not cover. Remove the mask shortly after it has dried with the tip of a scalpel, while the finish has not fully cured. On elements on the curved fuselage the template is trimmed on the part itself with a new blade. A final matte varnish evens out the sheen of the whole surface.
This is a masking set, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
