A photo-etched set in 1:48 scale for a model of the British Bristol Blenheim Mk.I light bomber.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Bristol Blenheim came about in the middle of the 1930s and on introduction was among the fast machines of its class: a twin-engine all-metal monoplane with radial engines and retractable landing gear, it could outrun the biplane fighters of the day. By the start of the war the balance had changed, though, and the Blenheim found itself at the limit of its capabilities. The Mk.I version has a short nose with the pilot's area set above it; the later form lengthened and glazed the nose for a navigator.
Photo-etched parts are made by etching the outline out of a thin metal fret. They can therefore manage shapes that cannot be injected into plastic: grilles, buckles and belts, plates, loops and instrument bezels a few tenths of a millimeter thick. In 1:48 scale the difference is noticeable above all where the viewer looks from close up. Which parts of the model the set covers and how the parts are seated is given in the instructions enclosed with the set.
Cut the parts out of the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface; do not break them out. Make the bends in a bending tool or by pressing against a straight edge, as tweezers will buckle the surface. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue in minute drops, which are easily metered with the tip of a wire. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a base color, otherwise the layer flakes off at the next handling.
This is an accessory photo-etched set. The kit of the aircraft, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
