Photo-etched two-point seatbelts in 1:48 scale, shaped after the wide leather straps of British aircraft of the First World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
British aircraft of the First World War had an open and austere cockpit. A single wide lap strap attached at two points held the pilot in the seat. The leather belt was apparent at first sight, and on a model with an open cockpit there is nowhere to hide it, so it is precisely on it that the care taken over the build shows.
Photo-etched seatbelts in 1:48 scale in a version corresponding to wide two-point straps. The photo-etched metal is thin enough that once bent the belt looks like a strip of leather; a plastic part would always be too thick in this scale. How many pairs of belts the fret carries and how the individual elements are put together is described in the manufacturer's instructions supplied with it.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade right at the place where they are held in the fret and sand the remaining tab down. Then bend the belt so that it falls naturally over the edge of the seat and its free end lies on the cushion; the blunt side of tweezers will manage the shaping. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied in a minute amount, as cement for polystyrene will not join metal. If the belts are in bare metal, wash and degrease them before painting and spray them with a primer intended for metal. A brown shade with a hint of wear imitates leather, and set the buckles apart with a metallic color.
The set suits a modeler who is building an aircraft with an open cockpit and wants the interior finished down to the detail. Work with small photo-etched parts calls for tweezers, calm and good light. Unless stated otherwise, the kit, paints and glue are not included.
