An injection-molded plastic kit of the French light fighter Caudron-Renault CR.714 C1 in the early version, 1:48 scale, from Dora Wings. This is a short-run kit from a smaller specialist brand — the plastic is finely engraved, but assembly calls for rather more care than with the large mainstream manufacturers. The package holds decals for several color schemes, clear cockpit glazing and a detailed cockpit. Clean the small parts carefully and cut the sprue gate remnants away with a light hand.
The CR.714 was a wooden light fighter which Caudron-Renault developed as a cheap and quickly built supplement for the French Air Force. It took part in the fighting of 1940 only in small numbers — it became known above all as the mount of the Polish pilots who fought in France after the fall of Poland. It was light and agile, but lightly armed and underpowered against the German fighters of the day.
On a short-run kit it pays to test-fit the parts dry and, where needed, to sand the joints gently. Use thin cement for plastic. Spray a primer before painting, as it will reveal any imperfections. Lay a gloss coat under the decals and unify the whole with matte. A wooden subject invites gentle emphasis on the panels and restrained weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
