About product

Curtiss P-40B Warhawk 3D instrument panel 1:48 (Red Fox Studio)

This set from Red Fox Studio is a fully pre-painted three-dimensional (3D) instrument panel and the accompanying cockpit details, made of thin acrylic. It is not a kit of the aircraft and not a waterslide decal either, but a finished surface detail that is glued directly onto the cockpit parts and raises their credibility at a stroke. The dials carry a hyperrealistic print with an imitation of the sheen of the cover glasses. The set is made to measure for a particular plastic Curtiss P-40B kit in 1:48 scale. The set is intended for the Airfix kit.

The real subject

The Curtiss P-40B was one of the early versions of the famous P-40 family, with an Allison V-1710 V12 engine. It was deployed at the beginning of the Second World War; in British and Allied service the early version was designated Tomahawk. It is best known thanks to the shark mouths of the American volunteers, the so-called Flying Tigers, in China. It was a robust, well armored machine that relied on strength and speed in a dive rather than on agility.

Fitting and use

The individual parts are carefully separated from the carrier frame and glued onto the plastic parts. The most reliable choice is super glue (cyanoacrylate), although PVA glues can also be used. The surface will take a gentle highlighting with a wash and a coat of matte acrylic varnish to unify it. Before gluing, we recommend trying the part dry.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want a realistic cockpit without photo-etched parts and hand painting of dials
  • Builders of the given P-40B kit in 1:48 scale
  • Beginners and advanced modelers alike who value a quick and striking detail

It is an interior detail accessory, not a complete model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
