A self-adhesive masking set in kabuki paper for a kit of the DB-26B/C aircraft in 1:48 scale. The set is listed at the EXPERT level, that is the highest of the three extents this brand offers; a BASIC level with a smaller extent of masked areas also exists for the same subject. It is neither a model of the aircraft nor decals, but an aid for painting. The masks are pre-cut, so it is enough to peel them off the backing, stick them on and spray — the paint edge is crisp with no trimming of tape.
The DB-26 is the director variant of the twin-engine Douglas B-26 Invader; the letter D stands for director, that is a machine adapted for controlling unmanned target drones. The basic Invader was a fast attack and bomber aircraft, which stayed in service unusually long. The director version differed from production machines mainly in equipment and antennas; the airframe stayed the same.
Clean and degrease the glazing, stick the masks on and press the edges down carefully with a toothpick or a stick, so that no paint seeps under them. Spray in thin coats. Take the mask off while the paint is only just dry, not once it has cured — otherwise there is a risk of tearing a piece of the finish away. With a fuller set it pays to work in sections. Remains of adhesive can be removed with a cotton swab moistened in spirit, but only on a fully cured finish.
