1:48 Douglas A-4B/A-4C Skyhawk EXPERT kabuki masks, a New Ware masking set in the widest grade for the early Skyhawks.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set for models of two early versions of the Douglas A-4 light attack aircraft. The EXPERT grade stands highest in this maker's ladder of coverage, so it masks more of the model than the basic variant, which is listed separately. The package holds a painting aid, not parts of a model.
The Skyhawk was designed by the team around Ed Heinemann with the aim of coming in well below the navy's weight requirement. The result was a machine so compact that a fixed wing without folding was enough on a carrier deck, and yet it carried a remarkable load. The B and C versions made up the early batches with a low canopy; the type was then built in further forms for years and with some users flew into the new millennium.
A higher grade means more small pieces, so set aside a separate session and good light for the masking. The glazing has to be clean and dry. Press the edges down with a blunt tip, and on small areas a moistened toothpick helps. Apply the paint in thin coats and remove the mask while the coat is still soft. More extensive masking is particularly worth it when a model is given a striking camouflage with a sharp division between shades; there every frame painted by hand shows at first glance.
