A photo-etched accessory set in 1:48 scale for a model of the Douglas A-4M Skyhawk in the mod. 1970 form. It adds thin metal details to a kit that cannot be made from plastic.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Douglas A-4 Skyhawk is a light single-seat attack aircraft that was remarkably small and compact for its time. It fitted onto a carrier deck elevator even without folding wings, which saved it weight and mechanism. The A-4M version belongs to the late machines of the series and served with the US Marine Corps. The mod. 1970 figure in the name distinguishes the form of the machine from that period from later modifications.
This is a photo-etched set of metal parts in 1:48 scale. Photo-etched parts are made by etching thin sheet away, so they reach a thickness that injection-molded plastic will never match. They are therefore used everywhere the material on a model should look thin. The individual parts are held in a fret on thin tabs and are cut out of it before use.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with side cutters, which bend the metal. Then level the remains of the tab with fine sandpaper or a file. Make the bends along the marked grooves, preferably in a bender or between two blades. The metal is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; plastic cement has no effect on it. Degrease the surface before painting and apply a primer, otherwise the shade holds poorly on smooth metal.
The set will please modelers who find a finished kit lacking in fineness in the interior and on the small equipment. Working with photo-etch calls for tweezers, calm and good light, but the result shows at first glance. It is an accessory, not a complete model: the kit, the paints and the glue have to be obtained separately, unless stated otherwise.
