1:48 Douglas SBD-1 Dauntless landing flaps is an Eduard photo-etched set that replaces the landing flaps of the model of the carrier dive bomber in 1:48 scale. It is an accessory for a kit, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A specialized photo-etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard aimed at a single, but very conspicuous assembly: the landing flaps. It is supplied as an accessory for a plastic kit, which you have to have. The set is one of those items where the gain from photo-etch is visible from a yard away.
The Douglas SBD Dauntless was an American carrier dive bomber and its hallmark is the perforated flaps with regular round holes. On the real machine they served as an airbrake in the dive and were meant to damp vibration. In injection-molded plastic such a feature cannot be rendered faithfully: either the holes are merely suggested or the material is too thick. Photo-etched sheet has the right thickness and the holes really go through, so the flap finally looks like sheet metal and not like a slab.
The original plastic flaps usually have to be cut off and the area on the wing leveled, so think through in advance whether you will build the model with the flaps retracted or extended. Separate the parts with a scalpel and sand the burr down. Make the bends in a bending tool; on long narrow parts a straight edge is the key. They are bonded with the smallest possible amount of super glue so that it does not run into the perforation. Degrease the metal and spray it with primer. When painting, spray thinly and from several directions, otherwise the holes will clog with paint and the effect will be lost.
The set is an accessory for a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
