1:48 English Knight

A figure of an English knight

A stand-alone figure of an English knight in 1:48 scale. A knight is an armored fighter on whom the greatest part of the impression is carried by the armor itself: its divisions, surfaces and breaks give the figure character before the face even comes up. The particular conception and the period the figure captures are specified by the manufacturer.

How much there is of it in 1:48 scale

Scale 1:48 means that a figure one hundred and eighty centimeters tall comes out at just under four centimeters. That is a size at which a figure can be painted with ordinary brushes, but small things such as the eyes or buckles are suggested with shadow rather than drawn. At the same time it is a scale in which a figure easily stands in a display case among other models or on a small base on its own.

Painting tips

• wash the figure in lukewarm water with detergent before work and let it dry thoroughly
• if it is divided into parts, level the joints before painting, as afterwards it is hard to do
• mount it on a stick or in a holder so that you do not have to touch it with your fingers
• paint from a dark base toward the light and brighten only the raised places
• the metal surfaces of the armor will take gloss, cloth and leather will not; the difference in sheen makes half the impression
• finally even the surface out with matte clear coat and bring the gloss back only where it belongs

Who it is for

For collectors of figures and for a modeler who wants to try painting a figure in a smaller scale than the one figures are usually collected in.
