An accessory cockpit set for a 1:48 model of the F-105G Thunderchief. It replaces the cockpit supplied with the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-105 Thunderchief was a heavy fighter-bomber that made its name chiefly over North Vietnam. The F-105G was a two-seat version used to suppress enemy air defenses, that is, on the most dangerous missions of the whole war. The cockpits are arranged one behind the other and each has different equipment according to the task of its crew member.
The set replaces the cockpit of a 1:48 model. At this scale a great deal shows under the open canopies, so it pays to have crisp shapes and legible instrument panels in the cockpits. The two-seat layout also means that the interior takes up a large area of the model.
The parts are not polystyrene and are bonded with super glue. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little short of the part and sand off the rest. Wash and degrease the set before painting. Dry-fit the cockpit into both fuselage halves until they close without pressure, and if need be sand down the mating surfaces from inside the fuselage. Paint the small parts before they are glued; then comes a dark wash into the recesses and a light dry brush on the edges and the controls.
The set is for modelers who want to build their Thunderchief with the canopies open and are not content with plastic parts that give the outline only. The work takes longer than on a single-seat aircraft, because there are two cockpits. The kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
