The custom of naming aircraft after fairy tale characters gave one American squadron an unmistakable character. Two of them are on this sheet. The crews called the first Sneezy and it carried serial number 41-23795. The second aircraft is listed in the data under the pair of names Bashful and Jersey Jackass with serial number 41-11776. Both aircraft operated from African bases in 1942 and 1943.
The B-24D type came about at a time when the American command was looking for a bomber able to operate at long range over the Mediterranean and over the Pacific. A high-set wing, twin vertical tail surfaces and a nose wheel gave the aircraft a look quite different from the classic idea of a bomber of that time. More examples of it were built than of any other American combat aircraft of the war.
The motifs are printed for models of 1:32 size, so the nose art comes out at a size where both the drawing and the small lettering are visible. The base should be glossy, the film slides off the paper after a short immersion, and the position can be adjusted only until it starts to dry.
