An Eduard masking set in 1:48 scale for a model of the Grumman F-14A Tomcat carrier-based fighter. The cut self-adhesive shapes are applied according to the enclosed diagram.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-14A Tomcat was a carrier-based fighter of the US Navy, built to defend naval formations at long range. A variable-geometry wing gave it a short launch from the deck as well as fast flight with the wing panels swept back. The crew consisted of a pilot and a weapon systems officer (WSO), so the cockpit is a two-seater and its glazing has fairly long framing - exactly the kind of job where a masking set pays off.
A masking sheet in 1:48 scale with items that come cut to finished shapes in self-adhesive material from the factory. Their position is shown by the diagram in the package. The set is drawn for a particular kit; there are several masking sets for this type differing in part number, so the part number decides when ordering.
Wash the glazing before masking and let it dry, so that the mask holds and no fingerprints are left under it. Move the items with tweezers and press every edge down with a toothpick. Spray several light coats instead of one heavy one. Take the mask off as soon as the paint is dry to the touch, and pull it away at an angle to the edge of the part. With a two-seat cockpit, split the work between the two parts separately, so that the items do not get mixed up.
For a modeler who is building the Tomcat in 1:48 scale and wants the cockpit frames straight without cutting tape by hand. The package contains masking sheets as listed by the manufacturer; paints, thinner and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
