The F-4E is the version of the American Phantom II fighter and attack aircraft that gained a built-in M61 rotary cannon in a lengthened nose. The earlier forms of the Phantom relied on guided missiles alone, and adding gun armament is among the most striking external differences in the whole family. It is precisely around the muzzle of the cannon and its fairing that attention concentrates on a model.
This accessory set in 1:48 scale is aimed at the area of the built-in cannon. It replaces the simplified solution of the injection-molded kit with a more accurate shape and finer detail. The exact number of parts, their numbers and the extent of the rework of the plastic are given in the manufacturer's instructions enclosed with it.
The parts are not polystyrene and are joined with super glue or epoxy. Cut the excess material and the production marks away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the surface. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting and let them dry. The metallic look of the muzzle comes off well with a dark shade carrying a hint of graphite, and the burn marks are added only at the very end.
The set suits modelers who want to make the nose of the Phantom more accurate and who are not afraid of a small amount of work on the plastic parts. The kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
