A cockpit set for a model of the American Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat carrier-based fighter in 1:48 scale. It replaces the cockpit area from a kit with parts worked in greater detail.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was an American carrier-based fighter of the Second World War, a rugged machine with an air-cooled radial engine that from 1943 formed the backbone of the fighter units of the US Navy in the Pacific. The F6F-5 version was the later and most numerous production form of the type. The cockpit of these machines was fairly roomy and with the canopy slid back you can see well inside on a model, so it is worth putting work into it.
Replacement parts for the cockpit area, that is, for the place a kit in this scale usually deals with only in rough outline. The exact list of parts as well as the kit the set is intended for are given in the manufacturer's instructions; check them before you start building.
The parts are not polystyrene, so bond them with super glue. Cut the excess material off a little way from the part with a sharp blade and sand the remainder down carefully. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Dry-fit the assembly before the fuselage is glued together; with replacement cockpits the fuselage walls often have to be thinned from the inside so that the halves can be closed. Paint and shade the interior before you close the cockpit up, because afterwards you will no longer reach it.
The kit of the aircraft, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
