An accessory resin set in 1:48 scale for the landing gear of the A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft in the A-10A, A-10B and A-10C versions. It is not a model of the aircraft but a replacement of the landing gear legs from the base kit with parts that render the detail more finely.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II is a single-seat attack aircraft for close support of ground units, which first flew in 1972. It carries a seven-barrel 30 mm rotary cannon and is built to survive hits. Its landing gear has several conspicuous solutions: the main legs retract forward into fairings under the wing and part of the wheel stays visible when retracted, which makes a belly landing easier. The nose leg is offset from the axis of the fuselage, because the barrel of the cannon sits on the axis. The A-10C version is a later upgrade with new avionics and the ability to carry precision-guided munitions.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, so that any residue of mold release agent is removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a sharp cutter and never snap them. Sand the marks wet and with breathing protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue; on load-bearing parts it pays to strengthen the joint with a wire pin glued into it. Apply a primer before painting. The legs are usually sprayed in a light base color, the recesses and the lines are brought out with a dark wash and the lower areas are lightly dusted. On this aircraft a degree of dirt on the landing gear fairings suits it too, because it operates from lower altitudes and from less prepared surfaces.
The set is an accessory for a build, not a stand-alone model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
