An Eduard photo-etched metal set for a model of the Fairchild A-10C Thunderbolt II ground-attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. Thin metal parts push the detail where plastic cannot reach.
Responsibility details are not available.
The A-10 Thunderbolt II is a single-seat American ground-attack aircraft built around a single task, namely close support of ground troops. The design is subordinated to survivability: the pilot sits in an armored bathtub, the controls have mechanical backups and the engine nacelles are slung high on the sides of the rear fuselage, out of reach of most hits from below. A 30 mm rotary cannon is installed in the forward fuselage, and the whole airframe was designed around it. The designation A-10C belongs to the upgraded standard with a digitized cockpit and the ability to carry guided weapons.
A photo-etched fret is a thin metal sheet with an etched relief. The parts are separated from it, formed and glued onto the model. Metal holds its shape even in a thickness that injection-molded plastic cannot reach, and that is why photo-etched parts are used where a plastic part is inevitably heavier than the real thing: on seat belts, grab handles, brackets, photo-etched mesh and finely divided surfaces. The extent of this set and the order of assembly are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
A photo-etched set is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
