An unassembled plastic kit of the American P-51D-5 Mustang fighter in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The North American P-51D was the most widespread version of the Mustang fighter. The teardrop canopy and the lowered fuselage spine gave the pilot a view in every direction, the armament was six 12.7 mm machine guns in the wing and power came from the liquid-cooled Merlin V12, built under license by Packard.
The D-5 designation belongs to the first production batches of the D version. These early machines did not yet have the dorsal fin ahead of the vertical tail that later aircraft received for better stability. For a modeler it is the most conspicuous recognition feature and the reason why the block is given in the title itself.
The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Finish and paint the cockpit before you close the fuselage, and mask the canopy before spraying any paint. A great many Mustangs flew in a bare metal finish, which is demanding on a model: the surface has to be perfectly smooth, because metallic shades bring out every scratch and every fingerprint. Sand the model carefully, wash it and degrease it before painting. The thinner and the thinning ratio follow the instructions of the paint manufacturer on the packaging.
The set will please collectors of American fighters of the Second World War in 1:48 scale and modelers who want to build an early form of the Mustang. Paints, glue and filler are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
