Photo-etched steel seat belts (harness) for the cockpit of a model of the A-10C Thunderbolt II ground-attack aircraft in 1:48 scale. Steel holds its shape after bending, so the belts look natural.
Responsibility details are not available.
The A-10C Thunderbolt II is a single-seat ground-attack aircraft intended for close support of ground troops. The pilot is protected by an armored bathtub in the forward fuselage, because the machine works low over the battlefield and within reach of fire from the ground. The letter C belongs to the upgraded version with reworked cockpit equipment, and the cockpit is exactly the place where a model comes closest to the real thing once detail is added to it.
Belts molded straight onto the seat look flat and read as part of the shell. Photo-etched belts are separate parts: they can be curved, draped over the edge of the cushion and left hanging loose the way belts lie in a real cockpit. With an open canopy it is a detail that everyone looks at.
Steel photo-etched parts are springier than softer metals and hold their shape after bending, which helps when forming the belts. Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, form them with tweezers over a rounded edge and glue them with spots of cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The colors of the belts are given in the manufacturer's instructions; if you are going to paint them, first wash the metal, degrease it and apply a primer.
The model, the seat, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
