A scenic accessory for dioramas in 1:48 scale. It represents a fire extinguisher, the kind of equipment that is never missing from a real workplace and yet is the item most often left out of a diorama. The accessory is not a kit of an aircraft or a vehicle: it is a separate object of a scene with which you furnish a hangar wall, the corner of a workshop or a garage, or a bay where equipment is serviced.
A fire extinguisher is a pressure vessel with a shut-off valve and an outlet, hung in a bracket on a wall or standing on the floor by an entrance. In hangars, service workshops and at fueling points it is part of the mandatory equipment and tends to be boldly set apart in color so that it can be found at a glance. It is exactly that patch of color that makes it useful in a diorama: it breaks up a plain stretch of wall and tells the viewer at once what kind of operation this is.
Cut the casting off the casting block with a fine-toothed saw, sand the cut and wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent before painting. Ordinary plastic cement does not hold on resin parts: use super glue, that is, cyanoacrylate. Apply a thin primer, spray the body of the vessel in a strong color and let it dry completely, or it will smear easily in the later steps. Fine-tune the detail with a dark wash around the valve and the bracket and a light dry brush along the edges. Keep the chipping and traces of use in check: an extinguisher is rarely used, so it looks more convincing dusty than worn.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
