About product

Fokker G.1 - barrels and a machine gun, 1:48 scale, Quickboost

A resin set for a plastic model of the Dutch twin-boom Fokker G.1. It is not a kit but a detail accessory focused on the armament: according to its name it contains barrels for the guns in the nose of the nacelle and a machine gun for the rear position. These are precisely the parts that tend to be least convincing in plastic, because an injection mold forces them to be thick and with a closed muzzle. A resin casting holds a slender diameter and fine detail on the weapon.

The real subject

The Fokker G.1 was a twin-engine, twin-boom aircraft of Dutch design from the end of the 1930s, conceived as a heavy fighter and ground-attack machine. Characteristic features were the concentrated battery of gun armament in the nose of the short central nacelle and a flexible gun position in its rear. The arrangement with tail booms gave it a silhouette that cannot be mistaken, and it is therefore a rewarding subject among modelers.

Building and painting tips

This is one of those sets that are fitted at the end of a build. Wash the castings first in warm water with detergent. Cut the thin barrels off on a surface with a sharp scalpel or a fine-toothed saw and never hold them in your fingers by the free end - in bending they are fragile. Remove the original plastic barrels and if necessary clean the holes out with a micro drill, so that the new parts drop in without pressure. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, of which a minute drop on the tip of a needle is enough. Paint the weapons separately: a dark steel base, a gentle polish with graphite, and on the machine gun in the cockpit you can carefully suggest worn finish where the gunner held it. Only then glue the parts in, ideally after the varnish and the decals.

Who the set is for

  • builders of Dutch aircraft of the late 1930s in 1:48 scale
  • modelers bothered by thick plastic barrels
  • anyone after an open gun position with a convincing machine gun
  • patient detail enthusiasts willing to work with fragile parts

This is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted; paints, glue and the kit are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. These are resin replacement armament parts for a plastic Fokker G.1 kit in 1:48 scale.

The number of parts is stated on the box of the set. According to its designation the set covers the barrels of the forward battery and the machine gun of the rear position.

At the end, after the varnish and the decals. Thin barrels are easily damaged during further handling of the model.

With a resin casting as a rule not. Any underfilled spot in the muzzle can simply be opened carefully with a micro drill.
