1:48 Fulmar Mk.I/II, glazing mask for the long greenhouse of the two-seat carrier fighter of the Fleet Air Arm.
Responsibility details are not available.
Masks for the long greenhouse of the two-seat carrier fighter. This very type of glazing is among the most demanding to be met on an aircraft model, because the transverse frames are close together.
The Fulmar grew out of the design of a light bomber and differed from the fighters of the land-based air arm in its second crew member. The navigator behind the pilot made sense on board: over the open sea without landmarks the machine had to find its way reliably back to the carrier. The armament consisted of eight machine guns in the wing and the power came from an engine of the Merlin family. In the Mediterranean these aircraft escorted convoys to Malta and, despite modest performance, became the type with the greatest number of kills in the whole Fleet Air Arm.
The glazing above both seats is long and divided by bars, between which narrow clear areas are left. Covering it by hand usually ends in uneven lines. Fit the pre-cut pieces one after another from the windscreen backwards and keep checking that the frames have not narrowed anywhere. Apply the interior shade before you glue the canopy on. Patience returns several times over here, because long glazing is the most closely watched area on a finished model.
