The two-ton 1:48 GBU-31 JDAM, Mk-84 Warhead bomb from AMMO of Mig Jimenez represents the most common form of American guided ordnance.
Responsibility details are not available.
The most widespread variant of the two-ton guided bomb of the US Air Force and Navy, brought into modeling scale by AMMO of Mig Jimenez. The name of the item speaks of four pieces and the set serves to arm a finished aircraft.
The Mk-84 is a classic high-explosive bomb from the American postwar series, with a thin-walled casing and a large proportion of explosive. While penetrating warheads have a massive steel body and are meant to break through concrete, this one is built for the area effect of the blast wave and of fragments against softer targets. Once the JDAM kit is added, it becomes a weapon that after release finds the entered coordinates by itself with satellite navigation and an inertial unit. It was precisely the combination of a cheap old body with a modern tail section that made JDAM the most used precision weapon of the first two decades of this century and the main reason why tactical aircraft carry bombs on external pylons to this day.
The thin-walled Mk-84 body has a smoother and more cylindrical silhouette than the penetrating version, which stands out once a flat coat is sprayed on. The lettering and the color rings on the casing are worth doing carefully, because they are the most conspicuous features of the whole weapon. Try the seating on the pylon dry before you reach for a glue suitable for the given material.
