A detail accessory cast in resin for a model of the racing aircraft Gee Bee R-1 in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the aircraft; the set replaces the propeller of a plastic model. On a machine which is in essence just a huge engine with a cabin at the back, the propeller with its spinner makes up the dominant feature of the whole model to the eye, so a more accurate casting pays off here more than anywhere else.
The Gee Bee Model R-1 Super Sportster was an American racing special of 1932, built with a single aim, to fly faster than everyone else. A short barrel-shaped fuselage, a minimal wing area and a massive radial engine made it a machine with the reputation of a killer which forgave only the very best pilot. Even so, a triumph in one of the most prestigious American races of its day was won with it. To this day it is among the most memorable aircraft in shape there are, and on a shelf it will be recognized even by people who take no interest in aircraft.
