A separate resin figure in 1:48 scale. The distinguishing element is the long small arm, which in this scale comes out as a thin, elongated part: the most fragile place on the whole casting and at the same time the element that sets the whole silhouette of the figure.
A long weapon extends the outline of a figure sideways or diagonally upward and thereby changes how the figure behaves in a composition. While a figure without one can be placed anywhere, this one needs an open sector around it so that the line of the weapon does not cross the outline of the model behind it; the eye reads two crossing thin lines as untidiness. It looks best in profile to the main viewing direction, when the whole length is legible, or turned slightly away from the viewer, so that it leads the eye into the scene. In 1:48 a standing figure measures roughly three and a half centimeters; beside a model of a vehicle or part of a building it therefore gives a legible sense of scale, and the weapon adds a second horizontal line on which the composition can rest.
Handle the thin parts carefully from the moment you unpack them. Cut the casting block off with a fine-toothed saw and support the casting as close to the cut as possible, so that the slender part does not break. Scrape the parting line along the barrel and the stock with a scalpel held flat and only lightly; abrasive paper easily thins the profile here. Wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water before painting and apply a thin primer. Set the wood of the stock and the metal parts apart in tone as well as in sheen: matte wood against darker semi-matte metal is the best way to show in a small scale that they are two different materials. It is bonded with super glue, and sanding is done wet and with respiratory protection.
The figure is supplied unpainted, as a resin casting. Paints, glue and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
