A set of stencils for the pixel finish of the single-seat MiG-29 in the variant with the bulged spine, in 1:48. The pattern refers to the aircraft that in the spring of 2022 came to be nicknamed the Ghost of Kyiv.

The production rendering that NATO marked with the letter C is told from the basic MiG-29 at first glance: the spine behind the cockpit is bulged, because the designers built a larger fuel tank and room for jamming equipment into it. The silhouette lost its slenderness by that, but the aircraft gained range. Ukrainian examples later received a finish of rectangular fields and one of them became the starting point of the legend of a lone fighter over the capital; the Ukrainian Air Force later described it as an embodied symbol of the defenders, not as a particular pilot.
On a large sheet it happens to everyone. A badly placed piece can be rescued as long as you have not pressed it down over its whole area: lift a corner with the flat tip of your tweezers, lead the pull in the plane of the surface and let the film come away gradually. Tearing it upward means stretching the material, and the transferred shape will then never match the neighboring part.
Lukewarm water and a soft cloth remove matte traces of adhesive without harming the finish; on a fresh coat solvents have the opposite effect. The rest of the sheet with the unused parts is worth storing on its original backing, flat and away from light. Film left loose in a box will curl, and transferring such a piece onto a doubly curved spine is then extra work.
The resulting surface carries sharp geometry directly in the paint and leaves behind no step that would give itself away under a semi-matte varnish.
